Bagpipes are considered to be among the oldest of musical instruments and thought to date back to about 100 AD. Although there is some dispute as to the history of the bagpipe, there's no doubt that in the context of battle, the powerful sound of bagpipe music struck fear in the hearts of the enemy, and the hauntingly beautiful sound of the bagpipe has stirred hearts of Kings and Queens to the most common man.

About Me

I have been playing the Great Highland Bagpipes since 2004 under the direction of Piper Major Wayne Willis.  Currently a member of the McGuires Irish Pub Pipe Band based in Pensacola Florida, I am available to play at your event (wedding, funeral, or other special event) within the NW Florida, SW Alabama, and SE Mississippi areas. Call 850-748-6535 today to schedule your entertainment.

Weddings

The bagpipes should be used in one or two special points to add a distinctive touch to complement but not overwhelm the ceremony. Keeping in mind that bagpipes are very loud and you will want to take that into consideration when planning your ceremony. Bagpipes can add a dramatic touch to your wedding. There are a number of options in which bagpipes can be used at your affair.

Funerals

A lone bagpiper stands just off from the assembled gathering at the grave side. As the pallbearers move the casket, the piper strikes in the bag, the air becomes thick with the enchanting sound of the drones and shrill melodic cry of the chanter. This unmistaken sound has been used for centuries to rally the clans for battle, strike fear into the hearts of their enemies, celebrate at any occasion and carry home the souls of the dead. After the grave side ceremony the bagpiper walks slowly away to the tune of a haunting air, escorting the spirit of the deceased to the final resting place. This same sad scene has been played out for generation after generation. The tradition has been carried forth from the ancient battlefields of Ireland and Scotland to the ceremonies honoring fallen peace officers, firefighters and veterans today.
